PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Josh Zangerle scored a game-high 25 points for the JWU (Providence) men's basketball team in a 79-72 loss to Mitchell College Thursday night in non-conference action at the Wildcat Center.

The Wappingers Falls, New York native connected on 8-of-16 shots from the field and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe for the Wildcats (2-6), who shot 44 percent from the field and finished the night 9-for-9 from the FT line. Zangerle also pulled down eight boards, as did freshman RJ Jones, who scored a career-high 11 points to go with three assists.

Senior Jonah Phang filled the stat sheet with 10 points (5-for-5 FGA), seven rebounds, and three blocks in 35 minutes while graduate student Sean Duke chipped in with eight points off the bench. Classmate Mike Rogers picked up six points, five boards and four assists before fouling out.

The Mariners (8-3) scored 10 points off turnovers in the first half while committing just three of their own as they built a 10-point halftime lead at 42-32. Zangerle led all scorers with 11 points.

JWU opened the second half on a 19-9 run to pull even at 51 behind six from Jones and five from Zangerle, and took their first lead of the game at 58-56 on a layup from Phang. Mitchell went ahead for good with 7:12 remaining in the second half and stretched its lead to seven with less than four minutes on the clock.

The Wildcats made one final push as a triple from Zangerle and a layup from Jones made it 72-70 with 1:45 to go. The visitors closed the night shooting 40 percent and forced 18 Wildcat turnovers. Mitchell held a 43-41 rebounding advantage.
