Mike Rogers scored a team-high 17 points for the JWU (Providence) men's basketball team in a season-opening 81-69 win over Salve Regina University Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Wildcat Center.

Sean Duke was the fifth JWU student-athlete to reach double-figures as he netted 11 points.
The Wildcats trailed by two at the half (40-38) as the Seahawks knocked down 54 percent of their shots – including 7-of-14 from downtown. Shaw-Glen paced JWU with nine first-half points while Zangerle canned a pair of triples and had eight at the break.
Rogers scored 10 his points over the final 20 minutes while Figueroa collected nine second-half points and Duke had eight. The Wildcats held the visitors to 39 percent shooting in the second half and closed the game with a 34-20 edge in points in the paint.
Salve Regina struggled at the charity stripe all afternoon, finishing just 10-of-21 from the line (47.6 pct.). JWU dominated the glass, pulling down 41 boards compared to 30 for SRU. Zangerle snared six rebounds while Duke grabbed five.
