PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) wrestling team opened the home portion of the 2024-25 schedule with a 19-16 win over Wisconsin-Whitewater Friday afternoon at the Wildcat Center.
Junior
Adolfo Betancur opened the meet with a 9-4 decision at 285 lbs. before senior and two-time defending national champion
Joziah Fry registered a 19-4 tech fall win at 125 lbs.
Freshman
Peyton Ellis – who was named New England Wrestling Association Freshman of the Week just a few days – continued to impress, this time with a 10-8 win over two-time All-American Dominik Mallinder at 133 lbs. Junior and reigning NEWA Wrestler of the Week
Cameron Soda, meanwhile, rolled to a 17-2 tech fall at 141 lbs.
Senior
Hayden Brown was the fifth victorious Wildcat as he continues to make his mark after missing all of 2003-24 with an 8-0 major decision win at 157 lbs.
