JWU wraps regular season with 1-0 win at USJ

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior Zofia Bangs scored the only goal of the match with 2:23 remaining in regulation to give the JWU (Providence) field hockey team a 1-0 win at the University of Saint Joseph Wednesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

The Wildcats will enter the playoffs as the No. 1 seed after posting a 12-0 record in conference play during the regular season, allowing just give goals during that span. JWU will host No. 8 Dean at noon on Saturday at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

The visitors outshot the Blue Jays 21-3, however the game remained scoreless until the final shot of the contest off the stick of Bangs which resulted in her 13th goal of the season. Sophomore Sophia Brea recorded one save to improve to 11-3 on the season, and both graduate student Megan Salsinha and sophomore Rayne Millett paced the Wildcats with three shots each.
