Elliott's second-half goal gives Wildcats 2-1 win over Monks

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Conner Elliott scored the game-winning goal with 17 minutes remaining in the second half to send the JWU (Providence) men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over St. Joseph's (ME) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Graduate student Aidan Bagley added his team-leading 10th marker of the season to help the Wildcats improve to 13-2-3 on the season and 10-1-3 in conference play. Junior Carlos Andrade and sophomore Christopher Vargas were each credited with assists for JWU, which held a 17-6 advantage in shots.

Following a scoreless first half which saw the Wildcats outshoot the visitors 7-1, Bagley was awarded and converted his sixth penalty kick of the season at 49:54. The Monks tied the match less than six minutes later before Elliott netted the game-winner. Andrade fed the ball back to Vargas, who nudged it over to Elliott, and he tucked a low shot inside the left post with 17 minutes remaining.

Senior Declan Caster stopped four shots to improve to 10-2-3 on the season. The Wildcats closed the match with a 17-6 edge in shots and a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Bagley led all student-athletes with three shots.
