PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore goalkeeper
Ava Vaughan scored her first collegiate goal for the JWU (Providence) women's soccer team in a 5-0 win over Anna Maria College Monday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Vaughan buried a penalty kick into the lower left corner of the net late in the first half for the Wildcats, who stretched their win streak to five and improved to 12-3-0 (10-0-0 GNAC) with the win. Junior
MacKenna Renaud, along with sophomores
Sophia Warburton,
Jessica Lee, and
Grace Sheehan all scored for JWU in a match which saw the home team outshoot the visitors 38-1.
Sheehan opened the scoring at 18:33 when she converted a pass from freshman
Marisa Krosky into her seventh goal of the season. Lee doubled the lead less than three minutes later as her corner kick from the far right corner sailed into the net. Vaughan's marker at 41:54 capped the first-half scoring.
Renaud pushed the lead to 4-0 with a goal from the top of the box off a pass from junior
Katie Gallagher :37 seconds into the second half. Warburton closed the scoring with her fourth tally of 2024 at 69:15, knocking a penalty kick into the lower right corner.
Vaughan made one save to earn the win before she was lifted to start the second half in favor of freshman
