Brea scores, Tamayo stops 25 in tie with Vikings

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Sophomore Sophia Brea scored her third goal of the season for the JWU (Providence) women's ice hockey team in a 1-1 tie with Salem State University Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action at the New England Sports Village.

Sophomore Alexia Labre and junior Madi Fox collected assists on the goal for the Wildcats, who received 25 saves from junior netminder Sofia Tamayo. For Labre, the assist was the first of her JWU career.

Following a scoreless first period, the Vikings got on the board 2:06 into the second on as goal from Celeste Scoppettuolo. Later in the period, Fox let go form a shot from the right point that was redirected by Labre and banged in by Brea for her third goal of the season at 15:20.

Brea nearly won the game with time winding down in the third as she found herself all alone with SSU goalie Kaia Hollingsworth, who made an outstanding save on a forehand deke by Brea. In OT, Scoppettuolo appeared to win the game on a wrister from the slot, but the referees ruled the puck never entered the net.

The Vikings went 0-for-2 on the PP while the Wildcats were 1-for-4.
