PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Conner Elliott scored the game-winning goal late in the first half in JWU-Providence's 1-0 win over in-state rival Roger Williams University Tuesday night in non-conference men's soccer action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Graduate student Jacob Friedman stopped two shots for the Wildcats, who improved to 3-2-1 on the season. JWU outshot the Hawks (2-2-3) by a 12-10 margin and each team was accessed two yellow cards.

With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Elliott stole the ball at midfield and began to work his way down the right side of the pitch. He put the ball through the legs of a defender, stepped into the box and fired a shot that deflected off the hands of RWU keeper Hogan Cain and into the left side of the net.

Junior Nolan Sooy nearly doubled the lead in the second half for the Wildcats but saw his shot glance off the crossbar and over the net. Graduate student Aidan Bagley and freshman Colin Laidlaw led JWU with two shots each.
