JWU men's hockey falls to Castleton in shootout

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Junior Brent Rickett picked up a goal and an assist in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 7-3 loss to Castleton University Friday night in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's action at the New England Sports Village.

Sophomores Connor Blanchard and Kadyn Fennell also found the back of the net for the Wildcats, who were outshot 40-19 on the evening, including 26-6 in the second period. Seniors Jared Lamothe and Kodi Legassie, along with freshman Davis Bone, each collected an assist for JWU.

The Spartans struck for a pair of goals 2:31 apart late in the first to take a lead into the intermission. The visitors dominated the second period, scoring twice in the opening 2:12 of the stanza to double their lead before extending it to 5-0 with a PP marker at 7:53.

The Wildcats made it a game in the third by scoring three times, highlighted by a great individual effort by Fennell, who cut through the defense before tucking the puck around the goaltender on his forehand. Rickett's marker made it a 6-3 game with 10 minutes remaining, but JWU could not get closer despite several solid scoring opportunities.

Sophomore netminder Jacob Perrin allowed four goals on 10 shots before being replaced by senior Mike Camasso midway through the second. He allowed two goals on 25 shots the rest of the way.
