Women's Soccer moves on with win over Blazers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The top-seeded JWU-Providence women's soccer team advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinals with a 5-0 win over No. 9 Elms College Sunday evening at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

A trio of freshmen – Jessica Lee, Sophia Warburton, and Grace Sheehan – scored first-half goals for the Wildcats (16-2-3), who will meet No. 4 Colby-Sawyer College Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Junior Emily DeRoehn and sophomore MacKenna Renaud added insurance markers in the second half.

Lee opened the scoring with an upper 90 goal on a free kick 12 minutes into the match. Just 50 seconds later, Warburton knocked in her own rebound to double the JWU lead. Sheehan netted the third goal following a cross from freshman Cloey Dias at 33:42 to make it 3-0 after 45 minutes.

Lee collected an assist 13 minutes into the second half when her corner kick was headed in by DeRoehn.

Juniors Carly McCrumb and Leah Bragaw each played one half in goal and combined to make one save. JWU finished the match with a 30-1 edge in shots.
