Wildcats close regular season with shutout win over Elms

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Befi Wanimbo scored his first collegiate goal in JWU-Providence's 5-0 win over Elms College Tuesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Graduate student Aidan Bagley added a pair of goals for the Wildcats (11-2-4, 10-1-3 GNAC), who have secured the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament and will host a quarterfinal contest this Saturday at 12 p.m.

The Wildcats outshot the Blazers 24-3 and put the game away early with three first-half goals, including two in a span of 1:01. Graduate student Alexander Pane netted the GWG at 24:34 before junior Conner Elliott doubled the lead with his sixth of the season. Bagley scored his first of the day on a free kick with less than 90 seconds remaining in the half.

Wanimbo's marker at 53:32 pushed the lead to 4-0, and goals from freshman Bennett Varanelli at 83:15 and Bagley at 89:10 capped the scoring. Elliott, Wanimbo, sophomore Carlos Andrade, and freshmen Elijah Coleman and Victor Nordlof all collected an assist. Graduate student Jacob Friedman did not record a save and moved to 11-2-4 with the win.
