Wildcats secure top seed with 4-2 win at Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. – Junior Angelina Oliveira scored a pair of goals in JWU-Providence's 4-2 win at Rivier University Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at Merrill Field.

Classmate Emily DeRoehn and sophomore Kylie Schmidt also scored for the Wildcats (14-2-3, 14-0-0 GNAC), who have secured the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament with one match remaining. JWU – which received one save from junior starting keeper Leah Bragaw – outshot the home team 29-5.

The Wildcats scored the only goal of the first half at 22:30 when Schmidt collected her fifth marker of 2023 off a feed from DeRoehn. Less than two minutes into the second half, DeRoehn converted a penalty kick to double the Wildcats lead before the Raiders knotted the score at two on a pair from Kaylee Magoon.

Oliveira's ninth goal of the season was set up by DeRoehn at 79:59 and proved to be the GWG. Her second goal of the match 1:01 later held as an insurance marker.
