ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Freshman Cam Martin and Davis Bone each found the back of the net in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 5-2 loss to the University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's hockey action at the New England Sports Village.
Sophomore netminder Jacob Perrin stopped 26 shots for the Wildcats, who surrendered two goals in the opening 4:22 of the contest and struggled to recover. They trimmed their deficit to 2-1 late in the first period on Martin's second career goal, and the game remained that way until a pair of USM goals 1:16 apart in the third made it 4-1.
Sophomores Connor Blanchard and Kevin Bite collected assists on Martin's goal while freshman Brendan Doyle and senior Kodi Legassie were credited with apples on the second JWU goal, which came with the extra attacked at 17:33 of the third. The Huskies then buried an empty-netter with three seconds remaining in regulation.
Southern Maine finished the contest outshooting the Wildcats 31-28 and 2-for-4 on the PP. JWU went 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
