
DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Every year the UMass Dartmouth Invitational attracts some of the best teams in New England. Competing against Division I, II and III schools, the Johnson & Wales University cross country teams held their own against a tough field.
The women finished 33rd with 988 points, beating Mass. Liberal Arts College by 29 points. The men finished in 31st, ahead of Salve Regina, with 817 points. Holy Cross claimed victory in the women's race with a total of 83 points, while WPI dominated the men's side with 61 points.
The women's team had a number of runners improve their times from last week's race. Leading on the women's side, and cutting a minute from last weeks' time, was Kaylan Dunham crossing the line at 21:58.78. Claire Livernois followed, finishing in 23:48.81, improving by thirty seconds. Next to cross was Haley Chaykowski at 24:07.30, followed by Amelia Warfer at 25:26.71, and Kayleigh Kearney at 26:56.34
The men's team faced an 8k course for the first time this season. Leading the JWU contingency was first-year Zach Curry with a time of 29:30.54. Only seconds behind was Matthew Ursillo at 29:41 and Nick Pereira at 29:44.47. Next to cross was Nathan Malorzo, finishing in 31:07.04. Trailed by Brent Giles, crossing the line at 32:33.23.
