
LINCOLN, RI – It was a virtual home meet Saturday for the Johnson & Wales University cross country teams. The Wildcats went just up the road to the CCRI Lincoln campus for the Tri State Championship where the women placed second and the men took fifth.
The women had four runners in the top 20 to amass 47 points and finish behind Salve Regina. JWU's men's team scored 130 points with Eastern Connecticut State winning the meet with 40 points.
Leading the way for the women's team was sophomore Victoria Barlow in a second-place time of 21:27.49. Just four seconds behind in fourth place was senior Mary Kelly at 21:31.06. In 11th place was Vanessa Bueti with a 22:17.16 and Hannah Blossom turned in a 22:23.80 to take 12th. Rounding out the top five on the team was Kaylan Dunham at 23:13.67.
Cracking the top 20 for the men was Matthew Ursillo as he crossed the line in 32:30.25 to take 18th. Running one of his best races of the season was Nick Pereira as he posted a time of 33:43.12 to take 26th. One spot back at 34:03.05 was Cole Geraghty. Brent Giles was close behind at 34:24.94.
Johnson & Wales competes in the James Early Invitational next Saturday.
