CHICOPEE, Mass. – Victoria Barlow's top-10 finish paced the women to fourth place at the Blazer Invitational, hosted by Elms College at Chicopee State Park. Led by freshman Cole Geraghty's victory, the Johnson & Wales University men's cross country team placed second.
On the men's side, Johnson & Wales scored 76 points to finish three points ahead of Western New England. The women produced 110 points. Salve Regina won both the men's and women's races.
Geraghty (Bogota, N.J.) cruised to victory, posting a top time of 29:16 that was 43 seconds faster than the next-closest competitor. Senior David Sherman (Yarmouthport, Mass.) cracked the top 10 with a time of 31:31. Producing a top-20 time of 32:44 was Alex Nathan (Beachwood, Ohio). Rounding out the JWU scoring was Nick Pereira (Franklin, Mass.) at 34:43 and Alex Prusky (Schenectady, N.Y) crossed the line in 35:37.
Barlow (Riverhead, N.Y.) just missed out on a top-five finish as she ran the 5k course in 25:19. Senior Mary Kelly (Wheaton, Ill.) finished inside the top 20 with a time of 27:19. Classmate Alison King (San Diego, Calif.) was next at 30:15. Running in her first collegiate meet, Kate Fiorella (Fredonia, N.Y.) ran a time of 30:36. Hannah Blossom (Westchester, Pa.) capped the JWU scorers with a 31:43.
Johnson & Wales will be just down the road at CCRI next Saturday for the Tri-State Championships.
