MANCHESTER, Conn. – The Johnson & Wales University cross country teams were back on the trail Saturday at the Trinity Invitational. The women placed seventh while the men came in eighth.
The women's team scored 185 points and were just edged out by the Merchant Marine Academy. The men posted 221 points to finish ahead of conference foe Lasell. Trinity won both meets.
Cracking the top 20 of the women's meet was Victoria Barlow (Riverhead, N.Y.) as she posted a team-best time of 21:40. A minute behind her was Kaylan Dunham (Manassas, Va.) to take 33rd. Two spots back was Mary Kelly (Wheaton, Ill.) in 22:53 while Hannah Blossom (Westchester, Pa.) crossed the line in 21:13 and Alison King (San Diego, Calif.) recorded a 24:29.
The highest finish of the day came from Cole Geraghty (Bogota, N.J.) as his time of 17:45 took 17th. Senior David Sherman (Yarmouthport, Mass.) also cracked the top 25 with his time of 17:57. Shaving 40 seconds off last week's race was Alex Nathan (Beachwood, Ohio) as he crossed the line in 20:14. Nick Pereira (Franklin, Mass.) ran a time of 22:54 and Joshua Johnson (Bridgeport, Conn.) rounded out the JWU contingency in 27:01.
Up next for the Wildcats is the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on September 16.
