LINCOLN, RI – Led by freshman Ciera Gross, the Johnson & Wales University women's cross country team placed third at the TriState Invitational. The meet was held at the CCRI campus in Lincoln.
The men scored 75 points to finish just four points back of Eastern Connecticut State while beating Salve Regina by 19. The women totaled 107 points, beating Framingham State by 21.
For the second meet in a row, Gross (Blairstown, NJ) turned in a top 15 performance with her time of 22:17 on the 5k course. A place behind Gross was Mary Kelly (Wheaton, Ill.) as she crossed the line in 22:31. Two more Wildcats came in one after the other as senior Kellie Graf (Ballston Lake, NY) posted a time of 23:44 to take 30th while Alison King (San Diego, Calif.) ran a 23:46. Rounding out the JWU scoring was Taniecia Anderson (Mt. Vernon, NY) at 23:58 to take 35th.
It was nearly a walk in the park for Sachs (Ellicott City, Md.) as he won by more than a minute. Also cracking the top 10 was Alex Melnick (Port Jervis, NY) with a time of 29:34. Close behind was Brandon Au (Oxford, Conn.) at 30:11 to take 14th. Josh Letendre (East Providence, RI) ran a season-best 30:34 to take 18th. Also posting a season-best time was Mike Jones (Wallkill, NY) as he placed 34th in 31:48.
The Wildcats are in action next week when they travel to the Westfield State Invitational.
