PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 23 Johnson & Wales women's volleyball team (21-4, 10-0 GNAC) stayed perfect in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action following a 3-0 win over Regis College (10-17, 4-6 GNAC) on Thursday evening.
Johnson & Wales set the tone in the first set. Senior middle blocker Kate Walker (Oakland, Calif.) ignited a 7-1 Wildcat run with a kill to take an 11-4 lead and force the Pride to call its first time out of the set.
Coming out of the timeout, the Wildcat offense stayed hot. Junior outside hitter Kelly Delaney (Calais, Maine) was a perfect three-for-three form the floor to help the Wildcats take the first set, 25-13.
The second set began as a barn-burner with three lead changes and the match tied eight times early on. With the contest tied at 8-8, Delaney sparked another long, 7-1, Wildcat run with a kill to take a 15-9 lead and never looked back to take the second set, 25-14.
Regis took an early 3-1 lead to begin the third set, but Johnson & Wales responded with a 7-0 run to take a 7-3 run and force the Pride to call its first timeout. The Wildcats continued to build upon its lead. Senior outside hitter Maria Coniglio (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) and Walker notched a pair of kills to increase the lead to 10-3.
Johnson & Wales sealed the match with another extensive run, 8-0, to take an 18-4 lead and never looked back. Hitting .379 as a team in the third, the Wildcats went on to take the final set, 25-8.
No. 23 Johnson & Wales hosts Ithaca College on Senior Night tomorrow evening at 5 p.m.
