MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - In a battle of AVCA ranked opponents the no. 18 JWU Wildcats dropped a 3-0 no. 14 Juniata Eagles in a neutral site clash at Wesleyan University.

JWU fell behind early in the opening set, 15-9, before clawing away at the Eagles courtesy of a couple aces by Brylee Frank to bring the score to 15-13. After a three point run by the Juniata, the Wildcats stayed within four until the final two points for JC ended set one 25-19. Juniata hit a .385 in the first set compared to the Wildcats' .176.
JWU scratched to within one, 9-8, before a six point stretch put the second set out of reach. Maria Coniglio connected on four of her team-high nine kills in the set despite the Eagles taking the 25-15 win.
The Wildcats trailed early in the third set but pushed back to within three with a kill by Kate Walker. A pair of kills by Hannah Dolan late in set three weren't enough as Juniata came out on top 25-18.
The Wildcats are back in action when they travel to Rivier on Tuesday for a rematch of the 2018 Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship set to begin at 7 p.m.
