MEDFORD, Mass. – No. 5 Johnson & Wales women's volleyball (11-2) dropped a pair of matches to Bowdoin College (5-6), 3-1, and No. 24 Tufts University (12-0), 3-1, late Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales began the day strong, taking the first set, 25-19. Sophomore outside hitter Tiah Scott (Medford, Mass.) posted a .500 attack percentage notching three kills on four attempts to help the Wildcats take the 1-0 match advantage.
However, the lead was short-lived. Bowdoin answered and evened the match, edging out the Wildcats, 25-20, in the second set. The Polar Bears continued to keep the pressure on the Wildcats following a 25-15 win in game three to take the 2-1 lead.
Despite trailing, the Wildcats battled in the fourth set, coming back to take at late 23-22 lead and force the Polar Bears to call a timeout. Coming out of the time out, Bowdoin received a kill from Ashley Williams to tie the game at 24 and never looked back and took the final set, 26-24.
In its second match of the day, Johnson & Wales dropped a tough three-setter to No. 24 Tufts, 3-0. Senior outside hitter Maria Coniglio (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) notched her fifth double-double of the season against the Jumbos, tallying 11 kills and 12 digs, while classmate Kate Walker (Oakland, Calif.) followed up with 10 kills.
No. 5 Johnson & Wales returns to conference play, hosting Simmons University on Wednesday, October 2 at 6 p.m.
