No. 5 Women's Volleyball Opens GNAC Action Sweeping Anna Maria, Emmanuel

­­­­­­PAXTON, Mass. – No. 5 Johnson & Wales women's volleyball (11-1, 2-0 GNAC) opened its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) slate with 3-0 sweeps of Anna Maria College (2-7, 0-1 GNAC) and Emmanuel College (4-8, 0-1 GNAC) on Friday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales improved to 14-0, including 9-0 in conference play following its 3-0 victory over, host, Anna Maria in its first match of the afternoon. Senior setter Mikayla Arimura (San Clemente, Calif.) paced the Wildcat offense with 11 assists, while also tallying five aces.

Making her first start of the season, sophomore middle blocker Elisabeth Elbrecht (Owings, Md.) posted a .615 attack percentage, registering nine kills on 13 attempts with one error. Elbrecht received assistance on the outside from classmate Tiah Scott (Medford, Mass.), who was flawless on the floor in the Wildcats first match registering seven kills on 10 attempts. 

In its second match of the afternoon, Johnson & Wales showed no signs of slowing down, with a convincing 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-10) against Emmanuel. For the second straight match, Scott powered the offense leading with seven kills on 11 attempts and just one miscue.

The Wildcats sealed the match saving the best for the final set, hitting .423 as a team and tallying 12 kills. Scott was dominant at the net in the third set, registering six kills on eight attempts, while Dolan chipped in with three kills of her own from the middle.

No. 5 Johnson & Wales returns to the court tomorrow afternoon against Bowdoin College and Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. First match at 1 p.m.
