Atlanta, Ga. - Day two of the Emory Classic had the women's volleyball team sweep the day with 3-0 wins in both matches. They defeated Guilford (25-13, 25-17, 26-24) and Belhaven (25-13, 25-18, 25-4) to close out their trip down south and head back home with a 3-1 record to open the year.
Brylee Frank: 36 assists, 3 aces (vs GC)
Maria Coniglio: 14 kills, 9 digs (vs BU)
Kate Walker: 11 kills (vs GC and vs BU)
The opening set against Guilford saw JWU hit a .520 with 15 kills. Seniors Kate Walker and Maria Coniglio combined for 20 kills in the match while juniors Hannah Dolan and Bella Oldham had seven apiece. Junior Elyssa Nicolas picked up 15 digs for the Wildcats in the win.
As a team the Wildcats hit a .275 in their sweep of Guilford and followed it up with an impressive .466 hitting percentage against Belhaven in their final match of the day. Coniglio paved the way in set three against Belhaven notching eight of her match high 14 kills in the final frame. The Wildcats had plenty of help at the service line with 17 aces in the match, including six from Brylee Frank, five from Mikayla Arimura and four from first year player Emily Corbett. Corbett also dug ten balls in the match for her first double-digit dig total of the season.
The team hits the road again next weekend when they travel to Connecticut to take on Coast Guard on Friday, September 6th at 4pm.
