BOSTON – The Johnson & Wales University women's volleyball team continued its mastery of the GNAC on Tuesday. The Wildcats went on the road to defeat Simmons 3-0 (25-12, 25-8, 25-15).
Simmons: 8-7, 2-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 14-0, 4-0 GNAC
The victory improved the Wildcats' winning streak to 18 matches against conference opponents.
Johnson & Wales put pressure on the Sharks from the start. The Wildcats forced Simmons into 13 errors in the first set, including six aces. The Sharks pulled within 9-4 in the second set, but JWU went on a 5-0 run that was capped by a Maria Coniglio (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) kill.
A pair of freshmen led the way offensively. Hannah Dolan (San Clemente, Calif.) and Gabbie Scudder (Ashburn, Va.) tied for the team-high with seven kills each. Dolan had a match-best three blocks and Scudder was nearly perfect with her .875 hitting percentage.
The top hitting team in the country, Johnson & Wales produced a .435 hitting percentage while limiting the Sharks to .089. JWU had 34 digs – including a match-high 12 from Coniglio – and four blocks.
The Wildcats are back at home on Friday to take on 14th-ranked MIT at 5 p.m.
