Wildcats Sweep Day Two of Kean Invitational

UNION, N.J. – The Johnson & Wales University women's volleyball team took care of business on day two of the Kean University Invitational and came away with the tournament title. Johnson & Wales opened Saturday with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-23) win over Albion. The Wildcats capped the weekend by taking down the host Cougars 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-13).

Katie Leidhold: 13 kills, 14 digs (GM 1) / 7 kills, 12 digs (GM 2)

Of Note:
Dating back to the 2015 season, Johnson & Wales has won 37-straight regular season matches. Connecticut College on October 24, 2015 is the last team to beat JWU during the regular season.

Three players were named to the all-tournament team, led by setter Brylee Frank (Palm City, Fla.) who was named tournament MVP. She averaged just under 11 assists and three digs. Maria Coniglio (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) and Elyssa Nicolas (Brisbane, Calif.) were also named to the all-tournament.

The Wildcats fought back from a 23-18 deficit against Albion to win the third set and the match. Hannah Dolan (San Clemente, Calif.) served the final six points. 

Leading the way offensively was junior Katie Leidhold (Acushnet, Mass.) with a 13-kill, 14-dig double-double. Kate Walker (Oakland, Calif.) followed with eight kills while hitting .533. The rookie Nicolas continued to play strong defense with a team-high 18 digs. 

It was a team effort on offense against Kean as five different players had six or more kills. Coniglio was tops with 10 kills to go along with seven digs. Freshman Gabbie Scudder (Ashburn, Va.) was next with eight kills, giving her at least eight kills in her last three matches.

Nicolas notched a game-high 13 digs and Leidhold was just one behind her. Led by senior Julianna Zaharias' (Long Beach, N.Y.) three aces, JWU dominated at the service line with 10 aces.

The Wildcats are back on the court Friday when they host the JWU Invitational. Johnson & Wales starts the weekend against Gordon at 4 p.m.
