Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Endicott To Start 2016

WALTHAM, Mass. – If the young Johnson & Wales University women's volleyball team had any jitters in its first match of the season, it didn't show in their performance. The Wildcats opened the Brandeis Invitational with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-22) victory over Endicott on Friday.

Records:
Endicott: 0-1
Johnson & Wales: 1-0

Statistical Leaders:
Kate Walker: 12 Kills, .454 Hitting%
Emily Kalmink: 11 Kills, .529 Hitting%
Maria Coniglio: 12 Kills, .450 Hitting%

Of Note:
All three of JWU's top offensive players were underclassmen. Picking up where she left during her breakout 2015 season, sophomore middle blocker Emily Kalmink (Byron Center, Mich.). She hit a team-high .529 to go along with 11 kills.

Freshmen outside hitters Kate Walker (Oakland, Calif.) and Maria Coniglio (Old Bethpage, NY) led the way with a team-high 12 kills. Classmate Gianna Esposito (Larkspur, Calif.) was tops at nine digs.

The offense was clicking as the Wildcats hit .358 as a team. That would have been the third-highest total last season.
