Volleyball's Seven Match Win Streak Stopped by Rivier

Nashua, NH – A battle of undefeated teams in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference went the host's way as the Rivier University women's volleyball team defeated Johnson & Wales University on Thursday. The Raiders prevailed 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-23).

Johnson & Wales: 16-6, 7-1 GNAC
Rivier: 22-5, 8-0 GNAC

The Lead
Rivier was able to keep the Wildcats' offensive at bay, holding a 51-34 advantage in digs. The Raiders converted that defense into twice as many kill (46-23) and a .287-.075 edge in hitting percentage.

Of Note:
For the 11th time this season, freshman outside hitter Nastasia Kapustin (West Nyack, NY) led the Wildcats offensively with a team-high eight kills. She also had three of JWU's nine aces.

An RU scoring run in each set was the Wildcats' undoing. In the first stanza, Rivier went on an 11-2 run then in the second frame a 13-5 streak gave them the set. The match appeared to be on its way to a fourth set with JWU up 20-12 in the third. However, the Raiders went on a 10-0 run to capture the lead and go one to win the match.

JWU Statistical Leaders:
Outside Hitter Nastasia Kupustin, 8 Kills, 3 Aces, 3 Digs, 1 Ace
