The women's volleyball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match on the road on Saturday afternoon, posting a 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-16) win over host Norwich before wrapping up the day with a 3-0 (25-2, 25-8, 25-12) victory against Mount Ida.
In the win over Norwich, Johnson & Wales was led by senior Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) with nine kills and 18 digs while junior Paula Cadavid (Pawtucket, R.I.) tallied five kills and 15 digs for the Wildcats. Junior Marissa Bunnewith (Millbury, Mass.) notched eight kills, six block and four digs while senior Kaitlin Kuntz (Boone, Iowa) added a match-best 21 digs for the Wildcats. Tara Lyons led the way for Norwich with six kills and four digs while Angie Hershberger notched 13 digs in the setback for the Cadets.
The victory over Mount Ida saw senior Tai Heath (Clinton, Md.) with a match-high eight kills while Cadavid notched six kills, eight digs and two blocks for the Wildcats. Junior Kellen Tensen (New Canaan, Conn.) had 14 set assists in the victory while Kuntz had 15 set assists for JWU. Mount Ida was led by Molly Alkinburg with six kills while Kelcey Koolman notched 16 set assists for the Mustangs in the setback.
With the pair of wins the Wildcats improve to 10-12 on the year and 4-1 in the GNAC. JWU will return to action on Tuesday, October 14th when they host Connecticut College in a non-conference contest at the Wildcat Center at 7:00 p.m.
