WINTHROP, Mass. - The women's tennis team won twice this past week and were rewarded for their efforts with a sweep of the weekly honors. Claire Parry earned GNAC Player of the Week while Emily Hill took home her second consecutive Rookie of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Parry helped Johnson & Wales keep its record perfect registering a 2-0 singles mark from the top of the Wildcat lineup. Following a tight two-set, 6-0, 6-4, win at number one singles against non-conference Gordon College early in the week, a 5-4 win, she closed out the week by helping the Wildcats open conference play shutting out Albertus Magnus on Saturday afternoon. Parry dominated the Falcons defeating Albertus Magnus' Jessica Coughlin, 6-0, 6-1, in first singles.
Posting a perfect 3-0 mark over two matches, first-year Hill helped the Wildcats open conference action by shutting out Albertus Magnus, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon. Against the Falcons, Hill partnered with teammate Kourtney Moore to knock off the Albertus Magnus duo Jessica Coughlin and Maria Mandulak, 8-2, in first doubles. Earlier in the week against Gordon, she picked up her second collegiate singles victory with 6-2, 6-2 win in second singles after earning an 8-3 win in second doubles earlier in the day.
JWU will host two games this week beginning on Tuesday against Bridgewater State at 3:30 PM at Centre Court before another conference match on Saturday against University of St. Joseph (Conn.) slated to kickoff at 1:00 PM.
