PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales women's tennis team was handed its first loss of the season by non-conference foe Springfield College, 6-2, on Tuesday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales jumped out to an early lead, taking two of three in doubles. First doubles tandem, junior Claire Parry (Westport, Conn.) and sophomore Drew Bobey (Charleston, S.C.) earned the 8-5 win over Cara Freadman and Rielly Malz. Springfield pulled out a win in third doubles to even the match, but the Wildcats' second doubles duo of sophomore Kourtney Moore (Roswell, Ga.) and first-year Emily Hill (Wilmington, Mass.) proved to be too much, edging out the Pride, 8-6
With a 2-1 match lead heading into singles play, the Pride mounted its own comeback winning five of six singles matches. Parry gave Freadman a run at the top of the line-up in first singles taking Springfield senior to 12 games in set two before falling, 6-1, 7-5. Hill's match ended undecided in two sets, 6-2, 5-7.
Johnson & Wales will travel to Regis on Saturday to take on the Pride in GNAC action at 2 p.m.
