Women's Tennis Opens Up Against Curry

PROVIDENCE, RI - After back-to-back championship runs in 2016 & 2017 and a follow up trip to the big match last season, reigning conference coach of the year, Devin Kitterick, and the women's tennis program are on a quest for another spot in the finals.

Johnson & Wales gets the season started with a 3:30 p.m. contest today at Curry. JWU then hosts five of it's next seven matches beginning on September 4th against Gordon.

In the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, the Wildcats are picked to take home the title garnering three first-place votes and 58 points total to take home the top spot in this year's preseason poll.

With the departure of three contributing seniors, Kitterick reloaded with five new faces to this years team. The heavy lifting at the top of the lineup will be done by the upper class including juniors Claire Parry, Katherine Ledesma and Gabriela Velazquez. Parry, an all-conference first teamer last season, won 10 matches at first singles and looks to carry that momentum into the '19-20 year. Sophomores Kourtney Moore, a second team singles recipient, and Drew Bobey will be relied upon in the top of the lineup both in singles and doubles play.

Johnson & Wales will host a team record eight games this season with GNAC play opening on the 14th of September against Saint Joseph. The rematch of the 2018 GNAC Championship is slated for October 12th at Colby Sawyer to close out the conference regular season.
