Tennis Programs Recognized for Academic Prowess

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Johnson & Wales University women's and men's tennis teams know how to get it done in the classroom and on the court. Both programs were recently honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

For the third year in row, the women's team earned an ITA All-Academic Team award for having at least a 3.20 grade point average. Women's tennis ranked third amongst all JWU sports with a 3.44 GPA.

In addition, six student-athletes collected ITA Scholar-Athlete status. Ashley Hartford, Madison Hernandez and Taylor Klein picked up the award for the second time in their career. To earn the award, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.50 GPA for the year.

Three members of the men's team garnered the ITA Scholar-Athlete award. Senior Ryan Schiele picked up the honor for the third time in his career. The men's team just missed the All-Academic Team award with a 3.19 GPA that was the third-highest amongst men's sports.
