PROVIDENCE, RI – It's been nearly seven months since the Johnson & Wales University women's tennis team hoisted the GNAC Championship trophy, but the Wildcats are ready for postseason play. JWU goes on the road Friday to take on Colby-Sawyer in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Wildcats and Chargers meet at 1 p.m. at the Voute Courts on the campus of Tufts University. The winner will face the winner of the MIT-John Jay contest.
This is Johnson & Wales second-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Last season JWU lost, 5-0, to Wilkes at Williams.
Leading the Wildcats is GNAC Player of the Year Nina Cohen. She has a 13-3 record at number one singles and teams up with Delaney Macchirole for a 14-2 doubles mark. Macchirole went 12-0 this year at number four singles.
This will be the second time the Wildcats and Chargers have met on the court this year. Colby-Sawyer won a regular season contest, 8-1, on September 16. Colby-Sawyer will join the GNAC next season.
Johnson & Wales defeated Simmons, 5-2, in October to capture the GNAC Championship. The Chargers were the NAC tournament champion.
