PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The women's soccer team defeated the Lasell Lasers on Wednesday evening for the first time since 2011. The Wildcats tied the Lasers twice in the past eight seasons before registering the 2-0 victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.
JWU: 6-5, 4-0
LU: 3-7, 3-2
Jordan Restivo (JWU): 2 goals
Olivia Cairrao (JWU): 2 assists
Colleen Lynch (JWU): 7 saves
Angela Sanzari (LU): 4 saves, 2 goals against
Sophomore Jordan Restivo laced a shot on goal while sliding to her right around a defender from roughly 15 yards out that buried into the top corner of the net in the 29th minute and that was all the insurance the Wildcats would need to secure their sixth straight victory on the season. The play developed after a throw-in deep in the Lasell end was taken away by Olivia Cairrao and quickly fed in to Restivo. Senior Colleen Lynch made five big saves on a wet surface in the opening half to keep the Lasers at bay.
The Wildcats kept the pressure moving throughout the second half which resulted in nine shots on, five of which were on frame. One of the nine was off the right foot of Restivo that she ripped from 25 yards out past the outstretched keeper. The Wildcats defense limited Lasell to five shots per half while Lynch corralled two more saves to help bring home the victory.
The Wildcats hit the road for another GNAC battle on Saturday afternoon at Colby Sawyer. The game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
