PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Extending its win-streak to five games, the Johnson & Wales women's soccer team (5-5, 3-0 GNAC) knocked off Norwich University (3-5, 2-2 GNAC), 6-1, to remain undefeated in conference play late Saturday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales controlled the game from the start. Junior midfielder Olivia Cairrao (Bristol, R.I.) found the top right corner of the net in the 13th minute to put the Wildcats on the board first for her, team-leading, 10th goal of the season. Midway through the period, sophomore forward Jordan Restivo (Utica, N.Y.) connected with senior midfielder Cat Nolan (Center Moriches, N.Y.) to send the Wildcats into half with the 2-0 advantage.
Returning to the pitch at the start of the second half, Johnson & Wales added to its lead. Junior forward Jaclyn Larson (Florham Park, N.J.) found the back off a penalty kick in the 55th minute. With a 3-0 lead and 26 minutes left in the game, Restivo fed Cairrao for the fourth Wildcat goal.
Norwich broke up the Wildcat shutout when sophomore Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.) found the bottom corner of the net to put the Cadets on the board.
Already with a pair of assists in the contest, Restivo added a goal on a pass from first-year Alexis Vieira (Warwick, R.I.) in the 77th minute. Five minutes later, Vieira connected with first-year Tiana Strachan (Fallbook, Calif.) for the seventh Wildcat goal.
In the last five meetings against the Cadets, the Wildcats are now 7-0-1.
Johnson & Wales continues conference play on Wednesday, October 2 hosting Lasell College at 7 p.m.
