Providence, RI – The Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team defeated the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors in double overtime by a score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Eastern Connecticut: 1-4
Johnson & Wales: 1-5
ECSU: Erin Collins (L, 1-4) 10 saves
JWU: Colleen Lynch (W, 1-2) 7 saves
Wildcats had opportunities to start the game as they attacked the Warrior's goalkeeper Erin Collins. Eastern struck first scoring in the 19th minute with a goal from Juliette Hogan.
Jordan Restivo continued to pressure offensively to end the first half, she had four shots with three of them on frame.
Olivia Cairrao came out of the locker room ready to go as she scored the Wildcat's first goal of the half 2:23 into play. That goal ended a 420:11 minute scoring drought for the Wildcats.
Destiny Perez was awarded a penalty kick with 21 minutes remaining in the second half, the yellow card was awarded to Olivia Pellegrino on the play. Perez missed wide left, and the game remained tied.
Cairrao had three opportunities to end the game in regulation but failed to find the back of the net.
Victoria Patriarca scored the game-winning goal 1:20 into the second overtime, securing the victory for Johnson & Wales.
The Wildcats' next game is at home versus Simmons University Wednesday, September 18th at 5 p.m.
