PROVIDENCE, RI – Visiting Saint Joseph's College scored the only goal in overtime to defeat the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team on Saturday. The Wildcats lost a 1-0 decision to the Monks.
The loss created a two-way tie for the second spot in the GNAC as both teams are now 8-2 in the league. St. Joseph's improved to 11-2 overall while the Wildcats dropped to 11-6-1.
Five minutes into the extra frame, Haley DaGraca took a long through-ball pass and slid it just under the diving arms of JWU goalie Colleen Lynch for the game-winner
Adia Grogan made all eight saves to pick up the victory. Lynch took the loss despite making four saves.
Both teams had good scoring opportunities through regulation but could not connect. In the 54th minute, DeGraca just missed a goal when she hit the crossbar. Emily Zeblisky had a good look in the 75th minute, but Grogan went up to make the save.
The Wildcats are on the road Wednesday to take on Simmons at 7 p.m.
