NEWTON, Mass. – The rematch of last year's GNAC championship game, unfortunately, had the same ending for the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team. The Wildcats dropped a 4-1 decision to Lasell on Saturday.
Lasell: 2-3, 2-0 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 3-4, 2-1 GNAC
LC: Angela Sanzari: 2-3, 9 Saves
JWU: Colleen Lynch: 3-4, 3 Saves
Olivia Cairrao (JWU): 1 Goal
Erika Badger (LC): 2 Goals
Carly Zdanek (LC): 2 Goals
A foul in the box set up the Lasers with a penalty kick in the 21st minute that Erika Badger converted into the first score of the games. Carly Zdanek followed 11 minutes later to give LC a 2-0 edge.
Johnson & Wales got within a goal before halftime when Olivia Cairrao scored in the 42nd minute. It's her second game in a row with a goal.
Badger and Zdanek struck again in the second half with goals three minutes apart to put the game out of reach.
The Wildcats had a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal, but Lasers' goalkeeper Angela Sanzari turned all but one away to get the victory.
JWU steps out of conference on Monday when it travels to Eastern Connecticut State for a 7 p.m. contest.
