PROVIDENCE, RI – A tough non-conference schedule has helped the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team get ready for GNAC action. The Wildcats prevailed 3-1 over Albertus Magnus on Wednesday.
Albertus Magnus: 1-4, 0-2 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 3-3, 2-0 GNAC
AC: Lexie Fenn, 0-3, 10 Saves
JWU: Colleen Lynch: 3-3, 3 Saves
Albertus Magnus got the first goal of the game in the fourth minute. JWU goalkeeper Colleen Lynch made a great save, but the rebound went to Jordan Kikosicki and she put it home for the first score.
The Falcons helped JWU get its first goal as Deja Hursey's shot hit off the foot of an AMC defender and into the net. There was no doubt about Hursey's second attempt 11 minutes later as she took the pass from Olivia Cairrao and fired it in the net from point-blank range.
JWU had a number of scoring opportunities with a 37-4 shot advantage. Falcons' netminder Lexie Finn kept AMC in the game with a season-high 10 saves.
The Wildcats are on the road Saturday to face Lasell at 1 p.m. in a rematch of last year's GNAC Championships game.
