Late Goals Propel Women’s Soccer to 2-0 Win Over UMass Boston

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team chipped away all night at UMass Boston until finally breaking through in the second half. The Wildcats scored a pair of goals in the final four minutes to defeat the Beacons, 2-0, in the season opener for both teams on Friday.

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales had numerous chances to get out to an early lead on the Beacons, but failed to capitalize. The Wildcats had a 27-12 advantage in shots.

In the 86th minute, sophomore Olivia Cairrao sent in a corner kick that was knocked back to her outside the box. The 2017 GNAC Rookie of the Year launched a shot from 21 yards out that found the top left-hand corner and broke the scoreless tie.

Just 73 seconds later, Cairrao nearly scored again, but her attempt hit the crossbar. Rookie Jordan Restivo was there to head the rebound into the net for her first collegiate goal.

The Wildcats are back at home Tuesday to play host to Wheaton at 7 p.m.
