WINTHROP, Mass. – All season long, the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team have been regulars on the GNAC weekly awards so it was only fitting for the Wildcats to have two of the final three. Olivia Cairrao was named GNAC Rookie of the Week and Colleen Lynch was tabbed GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week.
For Cairrao (Bristol, RI), it's the fourth time she's been recognized by the league. No other GNAC rookie has picked up the award more than once. Despite leading the league in goals against average and save percentage, Lynch (New Milford, Conn.) earned the award for the first time this season. Lasell's Carly Zdanek was named Player of the Week.
Cairrao scored a goal in both of JWU's games last week, including the game-winner at Emmanuel. The rookie also scored the Wildcats' only goal in the GNAC Quarterfinal victory over Albertus Magnus and converted her penalty kick. Cairrao is the top rookie goal scorer in the GNAC and rates sixth nationally amongst all freshmen.
As she's been for most of the year, Lynch was a brick wall last week, allowing only one goal in 200 minutes of action. She pitched a shutout in the 2-0 win at Emmanuel to give JWU the #2 seed in the GNAC Tournament. In the GNAC Quarterfinals, Lynch limited Albertus Magnus to just one goal and made three saves during the penalty kicks to help JWU advance. She leads the conference with a 0.61 GAA and .844 save percentage.
Johnson & Wales plays host to Simmons at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament.
