NEWTON, Mass. – Led by the top two scorers in the conference, the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team remained undefeated in GNAC action. Deja Hursey and Olivia Cairrao each found the back of the net in the first half as the Wildcats rolled to a 5-0 decision at Mount Ida on Saturday.
Mount Ida: 6-4, 3-4 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 9-2, 6-0 GNAC
Less than 10 minutes into the game, Hursey (Columbia, Md.) drilled a shot just inside the far right post from 30 yards out. It was her 12th goal of the season.
With just 2:46 left in the first half, Mount Ida committed a foul in the box which led to a penalty kick. Cairrao (Bristol, R.I.) drilled it into the back of the net.
The duo factored into two of the three second-half goals. A minute after Molly McCormack's (Livingston, N.J.) goal at the 47:33 mark, Cairrao scored with a left-footed shot from just outside the box. She leads the GNAC with 14 goals. Hursey assisted on Natalie Gallucci's (Coventry, R.I.) goal at the 57:09 mark.
Johnson & Wales dominated offensively with a 23-2 margin in shots. The Wildcats also took five corners compared to none by the Mustangs.
The Wildcats continue their road swing on Wednesday when they go to Regis for a 6:30 p.m. match.
