NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It took the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team a little bit to get warmed up, but once the Wildcats found their offense they put the game out of reach. Johnson & Wales went on the road to defeat Albertus Magnus, 4-1 on Wednesday.
Albertus Magnus: 3-3, 2-2 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 5-2, 3-0 GNAC
The Falcons stunned the Wildcats with a goal just 35 seconds into the contest, but the Wildcats got the equalizer before halftime. Cat Nolan (Center Moriches, N.Y.) shot from 10 yards out in the 29th minute to tie the game.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Nolan factored into the second goal. She crossed the ball to Deja Hursey (Columbia, Md.) and she drove it home for the go-ahead goal. Hursey leads the GNAC with nine goals.
Continuing the hot start to her collegiate career was freshman Olivia Cairrao (Bristol, R.I.) as she scored the eighth goal of her rookie season in the 60th minute. She dribbled past an AMC defender and shot from 12 yards out to make the margin 3-1.
The margin could have been wider as the Wildcats had a 27-6 advantage in shots. Johnson & Wales also took eight corner kicks to none by the Falcons.
The Wildcats are back at home on Saturday to host Saint Joseph at 1 p.m.
