BOSTON – A pair of goals from Johnson & Wales University forward Kyra Selner powered the Wildcats to victory. JWU went on the road to win its eighth-game in a row with a 4-0 road conference victory at Simmons on Wednesday.
Simmons: 7-7-2, 6-4-0 GNAC
Jophnson & Wales: 12-2-3, 7-0-2 GNAC
Selner (Sterling, Va.) has six goals in her last four games and she is tied for second in the GNAC for goals (16) and points (37). The 16 goals are tied for the third-most in school history while her 37 assists are fifth.
The junior got the Wildcats on the board in the 25th minute when she scored from 25 yards out. With less than: seven minutes remaining in the first half, Taylor Hopkins (Warminster, Pa.) put JWU up 2-0 when she slid the ball past the keeper on the right side.
Sophomore Christina Schneider (Walden, NY) factored into both of JWU's second-half insurance goals. Two minutes into the second half, Schneider served up a corner kick that Selner headed into the goal. It's Selner's fourth multi-goal game of the year. Seven minutes later, Schneider scored her own goal when she bent in the corner kick.
Picking up her 13th victory was goalkeeper Colleen Lynch (New Milford, Conn.) as she had to make six saves – her second-highest total of the season - to preserve her 11th shutout, which is the most in school history. Both teams took 11 shots with JWU getting one more shot (7-6) on goal.
The Wildcats go on the road for their final conference game of the regular season at Anna Maria on Friday at 6 p.m.
