KEENE, NH – An eight minute flurry in the first half was more than the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team could overcome. The Wildcats dropped a 5-1 decision at Keene State on Wednesday.
Johnson & Wales: 5-2-1
Keene State: 5-2
Taylor Hopkins: 1 Goal
The hosts took advantage of a Wildcat team that was coming off a tough contest on Sunday at Norwich by pressing the offense in the first half. The Owls had a 12-4 advantage for shots in the opening 45 minutes as part of an overall 23-8 margin.
Johnson & Wales got on the board in the 74th minute when junior Taylor Hopkins (Warminster, Pa.) scored her first goal of the season. Junior Kyra Selner (Sterling, Va.) led the Wildcats with three shots.
In the first 20 minutes of the game, JWU goalkeeper Colleen Lynch (New Milford, Conn.) gave up more goals (3) than she had the entire 2016 season (1). She made five saves, but her record fell to 5-1-1.
Johnson & Wales returns to the pitch on Saturday for a GNAC clash at home with Emmanuel at 1 p.m.
