DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Johnson & Wales University women's soccer player Kyra Selner has a flair for scoring goals at the right time. Three minutes into the first over time of the Wildcats' contest at UMass Dartmouth, the junior found the back of the net to lift JWU to a 1-0 win over the Corsairs on Wednesday.
Johnson & Wales: 4-1-1
UMass Dartmouth: 2-3
Dating back to the Wildcats' contest at Lasell on Saturday, it had been 280 minutes since the Wildcats had scored a goal before Selner's tally. Selner (Sterling, Va.) collected the ball and fired from outside the box on the left side to beat UMD keeper Madison Boucher. It's the seventh game-winning goal of her career.
JWU goalkeeper Colleen Lynch (New Milford, Conn.) turned away all four shots she faced to record her third shutout and improve to 4-0-1 on the year. The Wildcats had a slim 11-10 shot advantage.
The Wildcats are back in conference action on Sunday when they travel to Norwich at 1 p.m.
