PROVIDENCE, RI – One goal was all the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team needed to claim the JWU Cup. A Christina Schneider goal three minutes into the contest gave the Providence campus a 1-0 victory over Denver on Sunday.
Johnson & Wales (NC):3-1
Johnson & Wales (RI): 2-0
Providence put early pressure on Denver and it resulted in a corner kick. Schneider's (Walden, NY) corner kick bent in, struck the far post and ricocheted off Denver keeper Victoria Diaz for the lone goal of the game. It was the first game-winning goal for Schneider in 23 games as a Wildcat.
Freshman Colleen Lynch (New Milford, Conn.) played another solid game in goal for Providence. She turned away all four shots she faced to record her second shutout in a row. It's the first time since the 2000 season that Johnson & Wales has started the year with back-to-back shutouts.
Denver goalkeeper Victoria Diaz kept her team in the game by making seven saves. Arianna Flores and Emily Schmuckler had a team-high three shots.
