GORHAM, Maine – The Johnson & Wales University wrestling team was in action at the Ted Reese Invitational, hosted by the University of Southern Maine. The Wildcats had four top-five finishes.
The highest finish came from first-year Victor Perlleshi at 133 pounds. He started with a pin and major decision on his way to the finals. He dropped a 3-1 overtime decision to Wesleyan's Tristan Stetson.
Fellow rookie Gabriel Leo posted two wins before he fell to top-ranked Peter Del Gallo in the semifinals. He responded in the third-place match by beating Castleton's Frankie Darwak, 7-2.
Two Wildcats recorded fourth-place finishes. A pin and major decision got rookie Kyle Althenn into the semifinals of 157 pounds. First-year Joseph Gannone had a similar run at 174 pounds, including first-round pin.
Rookie Serge Bouyssou lost his first match, but notched four-straight pins in the consolation bracket. He recorded an 18-9 major decision over Jeremy Sendrowski from Southern Maine.
JWU is back on the mat Wednesday when it travels to 14th-ranked Coast Guard for a 7 p.m. contest.
