ITHACA, N.Y. - The wrestling took their talents to the Finger Lakes region of New York and are currently sitting in first after day one of the Ithaca Invitational.
Da'mani Burns and Michael DiNardo picked up a pair of pins each to continue in the championship bracket. Burns, wrestling at 141 pounds, used up 1:23 of the first period before taking down Western New England's Omar Velez before the pin on NYU's Donald Albach was complete in under 50 seconds. In the heavyweight division this season, DiNardo used 1:15 and 1:48 to earn the victory by fall against his opponents from Castleton and Otterbein. First-year 133-pounder Hayden Brown also earned a couple of wins-by-fall on Friday with wins over Chris Horton of RIT in 5:57 and Norwich's Cameron Wooldridge in 1:19.
Other Wildcats advancing in the winner's bracket include first-year 125-pounder, Justin Lopez, Christopher Caban (125 lb), Gabriel McDaniel (141 lb), Freddy Eckles (141 lb), Jordan Robinson (141 lb) and Marvin Cunningham (149 lb).
Seon Bowker, in the 174 pound weight class, earned two close wins to advance in the winners bracket while Nicholas Munsch and Nick Caracappa combined for three wins to remain in the championship rounds. Tommy Wrzesien rounded out the winner's-bracket-Wildcats with a pin over his opponent from Norwich and a 10-5 decision against Baldwin Wallace's Matthew Werts.
The Wildcats will close out the tournament in Ithaca tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.
