WORCESTER, Mass. – Last weekend the Johnson & Wales University wrestling team had its most successful showing at the NWCA National Duals. One of the reasons why the Wildcats made the finals for the first time was the efforts of Da'mani Burns and he was recognized as NEWA Wrestler of the Week.
It's the second time this season that the Newburgh, NY native has won the award. His first honor came on December 5. Bridgewater State's Ryan Higgins was named Rookie of the Week.
At the National Duals, Burns went 4-0 with a pair of pins at 149 pounds. He defeated top-ranked Alex Wilson of Augsburg to take over the number one ranking in the latest poll. Burns is 19-3 on the year with 11 pins which ranks him seventh in the NCAA.
JWU – who moved up to No. 2 in the national rankings - is on the road Sunday it travels to Coast Guard to take on Norwich and Southern Maine.
